To the Land of Castles

Being the kind of guy I am, I was looking for a reason to spend a long weekend away. Neither I, nor Jayney, could come up with anything, so, being free spirits, we did it anyway. A quick search of a UK map and we’d decided to head for a place that Jayney had visited as a child but I had never been. South West Wales.

They say that for its size, there are more castles in Wales than anywhere else in the world. So it came as no surprise to me, being one who doesn’t believe in coincidences, that we found ourselves camped close to a very fine example, Carew Castle. Being mid November, it was almost dark when we arrived and we quickly found the drawback with a solar panel when the sun remains so low in the sky.We were able to make ouselves comfortable however and looked forward to the next couple of days exploring our new, albeit temporary, new home.

Next morning, we took an invigorating stroll around the lake and then decided to head into Tenby to see the sights and get some supplies.

Ready to go.

Tenby is a glorious example of a typical British seaside town. A selection of fine hotels and guest houses sit atop cliffs overlooking one of the finest beaches you will find.

Sand....as far as the lens can see.

Not many swimsuits to be seen.

Low tide in the harbour.

Harbourside houses.

After a couple of hours, we headed back to the van for some hot food and spicy, warming mulled wine. We made plans to venture further afield tomorrow.
